Los Angeles DJ/Producer Jose Marquez’s musical influence is a result of being brought up on a stable diet of Latin and World Music. Always intrigued by electronic sounds, Jose’s mission has been to fuse his love of world rhythms with the dance floor. Jose indeed succeeded when he burst onto the scene in 2010 with memorable remixes & edits of artists such as Celia Cruz, Nina Simone, Oumou Sangare and many others…

BATUCADA CARIOCA
Batucada Carioca is the rawest form of samba bateria that you will ever see outside of Brazil. Batucada means drumming group and carioca means from Rio de Janeiro, and Batucada Carioca is the real deal. Led by the venerable Maninho Costa, born in Ilha do Governador in Rio’s Zona Norte and nephew of the great samba school master Odilon Costa, he is recognized as one of the most bad-ass players anywhere in the world. He brings the real samba flavour to our Global Rhythm party.

The Carnival is celebrated in Brazil every year, 46 days before the Easter festival. Carnival is derived from the word carnelevare, wich literally translates to “removal of meat”. The roots of the festival are believed to be in the tradition of Roman Catholics when they abstained from meat and alcohol on certain days as a method to drive away bad things from their life.
The Carnival in Brazil as we know it today is believed to have originated during the European dominated era. Back then, followers of the Roman Catholic Church would indulge in last day of dance, fun, alcohol and sex just before the start of Lent, which is a period of abstinence from alcohol and other sins. Back then, people would exchange clothes and indulge in wild dancing, and it also sometimes coincided with exchange of slaves.
Carnivals are celebrated in many countries but the one in Brazil is most famous. Different cities of Brazil have their own way of celebrating this week long festival of revelry and fun. However, the most famous carnival is that of Rio De Janeiro. Thousands of people throng the Sambodromo stadium in the city. Often wearing masks and colorful costumes, they dance to the beats of drums and music, Samba being the most prevalent form of dancing here.
A major parade with beautifully dressed samba dancers atop a decorated moving vehicle goes through the stadium as hundreds of people keep joining the parade as the parade makes its way.
Another city which is famous for its Carnival in Brazil is Salvador de Bahia. The original capital in Brazil, carnival is celebrated a little differently here. Street carnival is celebrated in this city rather than having a stadium as a venue for the parade. Thousands of people throng the streets from early dawn and dance their way through the city till late evenings. Carnival in Salvador also lasts a little longer than in Rio.

Mitch Winthrop
Began his career as a disco and funk DJ in Toronto in 1979, and began to develop what was to become a huge following by the mid 80’s. Additionally, he has hosted and/or programmed over six different house music mix shows on various radio stations, spanning the last ten years. This wealth of experience includes stints on Energy 108 (Canada’s biggest dance station), Buffalo, New York’s WBLK, as well as the original “Keys To House” (a nationally syndicated program in the U.S.), and the first ever house music show on Canadian radio (The “Rhythm Method” on CHRY in Toronto). A proven live performer, Mitch has spun memorable sets in New York City and in Germany, and has also amassed a portfolio of many residencies in significant Toronto clubs. His audiences there have come to expect a solid repertoire of hard New York Tribal House and pumping garage, mixed elegantly to his very high standards. Mitch’s credentials as a studio artist are also impressive. He has remixed tracks for ‘Lil Louis and The People Movers, among others; he has collaborated with The Stickmen; and he has also been featured as producer or remixer on releases for Hi-Bias, SPG, Quality and Container Records, Germany. Mitch’s most recent release, “Still Groovin'” (Aquarius) is still tearing up floors everywhere.

Reasons To Be Cheerful Part !
Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow; you were not around at the time so you may not have had the experience of how it sounded and evolved to what it is today, and for those of you who understands and appreciate House Music today, and for those of you who want to be inspired by some of what’s coming up tomorrow.
The Real Deal, these three awesome home grown Toronto DJs, have been around since the inception of House Music, are DjS who kepted the dance floors filled.
DJs Curtis Smith – Out of D’Ordinary, Groove on Down and Dibgate Records.
DJ Mitch Winthrop – Began his career as a disco and funk DJ in Toronto in 1979, and began to develop what was to become a huge following by the mid 80’s. Additionally, he has hosted and/or programmed over six different house music mix shows on various radio stations, spanning the last ten years.
DJ Dave Campbell
Some DJs “break” records in Toronto, meaning they play it in Toronto before it gets played anywhere else. Dave Campbell has broken genres in Toronto. A veritable music encyclopedia, he’s performed all across Canada as well as in the US, Europe, China and the Phillipines.
Dave has that special knack for getting a crowd grooving to his beat, so it’s no surprise that he’s shared the stage with legends like DJ Jazzy Jeff and Jam Master Jay, or opened performances for megastars like Usher and Kanye West at ACC
