Version Studio Series Part One is a project deeply rooted to ideas of art, home, migration, identity and roots (connectedness) through art and music. connects the dots between Toronto and Bristol, UK, musically. The Series will showcase many musical minds that share ‘Trip Hop” (otherwise, refer to as ‘Downtempo’) is a musical genre which originated in Bristol UK, of the early 1990s.
Trip Hop It has been described as “a fusion of hip hop and electronica until neither genre is recognizable, and may incorporate a variety of styles of African Diaspora fusions including funk, dub, soul, psychedelia, R&B, jazz, house music and electronic music. Trip Hop like many African based music strives for creative elevation and musical liberation.
This musical journey will be the first of its kind in Canada, so for the next 4 months we invite you to come and experience live performances from some of Bristol’s leading DJs and musicians (Rob Smith aka Smith & Mighty , DJ Milo aka Wild Bunch now Massive Attack and Tammy Payne’s Sissi and Talking Loud) that were at the forefront of the music that lead to the birth of Trip Hop and Downtempo music.
